An unforgettable mountain hike form Kastaniotissa to Ilia. North Evia, to all its extent, either flatland or mountainous, is ideal for excursion and hikes of great interest, as far as the change of scenery and the ancient finds along the trail.

Therefore, if we could suggest many routes we would require tens of pages more.
For this reason, we have chosen the specific trail, since it offers exquisite interest and due to its recent popularity. At the starting point, is the splendid semi-mountainous village of Kastaniotissa, that belongs to the municipality of Oreoi, where your party can be transported via vehicle. 

This vehicle can then be sent to await the hikers after several hours at either meeting point- at Ilia in the municipality of Aidipsos or at the Monastery of Ilia. In other words the party of hikers will take the trail through the densely forested area of Telethrio for 5-6 kilometers and cover a distance that would require 40 kilometers on the road.

Regardless to say, this excursion must be organized under good weather conditions. The hike starts at Kastaniotissa, and our first stop will be the chapel of the Virgin Mary with the outstanding view of the Istiaia valley stretching al the way to the sea. Continuing on, we experience once in a lifetime natural surroundings, passing through natural springs, mountain lakes, streams and forests full of oak trees, maple and cherry trees; we reach the monastery of St. George at the Polylofo area or the village of Ilia, depending on our destination of choice.
