xartis4 0This route, doesn’t surpass the 35 kilometers distance, is as exciting as it is easily accessible since the roads are paved and not very busy. The central road from Istiaia leads straight to the village of Voutas. Here it’s up to you to decide on either visiting the quaint village that spreads out to your left or to follow the road that leads you to the village of Kokkinomilia.

Attention.

At this point make sure you follow the new road from Istiaia towards Rovies. As well make sure you don’t continue on without noticing the road sing pointing to Kokkinomilia. The village is visible from the road. The road goes through the bottom part of the village leading towards the village of Krioneriti. A small detour to check out this village is something we suggest. The road towards Krioneriti and then along to Milies provides the magic of mountain view and the panoramic sights of the Istiaia valley which stretches all the way to the sea.

After Milies, we start our descent. For a few kilometers you follow the flow of the river Xirias while enjoying the coolness provided by the maple trees. Don’t miss out on stopping to take in the songs of the nightingales by the banks of the river. After passing through the quaint village of Kato Monokaria, you return to the point on the road leading back to Istiaia, thus completing your  return route.
